How Do You Bury a St. Joseph

Who is St. Joseph?

St. Joseph was said to be the husband of Mary and foster father to Jesus. Joseph is considered the Patron St. of “families” along with fathers, expectant mothers (pregnant women), travelers, immigrants, house sellers and buyers, craftsmen, engineers, and working people in general. Joseph was a carpenter, a working man, compassionate and caring. While Jesus was still a child, Joseph had to move his family for protection against the King. As the family fled to Egypt, the only items they were able to take with them, were the possession they could carry. Once in Egypt, having nothing, Joseph built a home for the family to live in, and a business the family could survive off of. Many countries and cities believe that St. Joseph is responsible for taking care of their families and thier land while providing safety and comfort. Thus, the tradition of burying a statue of St. Joseph, upside down in the yard of a property that is for sale, was born.

How to bury a St, Joseph

The best place to bury a St. Joseph statue is next to the “For Sale” sign in the front of the yard. Tradition says the statue should be buried upside down and facing toward the direction of the desired moved. It is believed burying the St. Joseph statue upside down is symbolic for the St. Joseph needing to work extra hard to get back to right side up and into a place of honor, thus helping to bring forth a buyer to purchase the home. If there is an absence of typical yard, it is recommended to bury the statue in a potted plant near the front door of the home. Once the home is sold, it is recommended to place the St. Joseph statue in a place of honor in your new home, share with a loved a one who will be selling their home, or place in the sold home for the new owners to enjoy.

The Way of St. Joseph...In 6 Simple Steps

  1.  Ask - Ask St. Joseph to help you sell your home
  2. Believe- Believe in St. Joseph to intercede to God, for the granting of your request
  3. Trust - Bury or place St. Joseph's statue on the property as an outward sign of your belief and trust in his power.
  4. Thank - Thank St. Joseph for having responded to your call, before, during, and after your home sells.
  5. Move -Move the St. Joseph statue to a place of honor once the home has sold.
  6. Share - Share your experience with family and friends as to how St. Joseph has helped you.

Prayer to St. Joseph

“Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt, before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires.
Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, so that having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.
Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen. “
